Now that Seth MacFarlane is leaving FOX and signing a new deal with NBC, the series runs the risk of being cancelled for good.
Only a few shows truly stand the test of time. ‘Family Guy’, created by Seth MacFarlane, is one such animated sitcom that has surpassed generations to become truly iconic.

But, just like everything that has ever made it to the top, this too, has had its share of occasional hiccups and cancellations. Debuted in 1999, FOX cancelled the hit series in 2002, only to bring it back in 2005 because of the overwhelming public demand. A worthy gamble that made way for 18 more seasons and 8 Emmy awards, the show is gearing up for the release of its 19th season. But what does the future hold for a show in the same league as ‘The Simpsons’? Let’s find out!
Is season 19 of ‘Family Guy’ its last? With rumours always surrounding its cancellation, FOX has finally announced that ‘Family Guy’ will return to the network in its primetime slot for the fall schedule.
After season 18 of the show brought in huge viewership every week, even more than ‘The Simpsons’ did, there was little doubt that the show will return. The network announced that the production of the show is already underway and will return in September 2020, although an official date hasn’t been set.

Although there was little doubt that it will be renewed for season 19, FOX and creator Seth MacFarlane have apparently parted ways since the announcement. So, what does the future hold for the show?

If reports are to be believed, Seth MacFarlane has signed a new five-year deal with NBC network. The deal will include him developing a series of live-action and animated shows across several NBC platforms but he’ll still have the freedom to stick with his other-FOX owned shows.
Now, even though the future of ‘Family Guy’ does look safe through this deal, there is no guarantee that Seth MacFarlane will stick with the show for the long haul. Having already tested the waters with writing, directing, and producing, he has emerged successful with projects like ‘Ted, ‘Ted 2’, and ‘A Million Ways To Die In The West’.
And a series that has stayed on for so long can survive under someone else’s reign only if it sustains its relevance and its audience continues to resonate with it. But what is the show all about?
The great big family in ‘Family Guy’‘Family Guy’ revolves around the members of the Griffin clan. We have, of course, creator Seth MacFarlane voicing the patriarch Peter Griffin, a guy who does a regular blue-collar job. Then there is Alex Borstein playing a stay-at-home mum and piano teacher.
Meg, voiced by Mila Kunis, is their teen daughter who is a victim of bullying and is often ignored by her family. Chris, voiced by Seth Green, is their not-so-smart and overweight son while Stewie (also voiced by Seth MacFarlane) is an infant who often resorts to adult behaviour.
Rounding up the lead cast is the anthropomorphic dog Brian (voiced again by Seth MacFarlane) putting together this satirical comedy that has been showcasing how relationships often work in a conventional-patriarchal family.
Season 19 will see all of the lead cast making their return and finally, there will be something to look forward to in the year 2020.
